5. Loch Brora, Sutherland, Schotland

Loch Brora

Loch Brora is een meer in de gemeente Golspie nabij de oostkust van Sutherland in het Highland Council-gebied in Noord-Schotland. Het ligt direct ten zuiden van een kleine weg die een paar kilometer naar het oosten verbindt met de A9 in Brora, waar het meer zijn naam aan ontleent.

4. Wailing Widow Falls, Loch na Gainmhich, Schotland

Wailing Widow Falls

De Wailing Widow Falls is misschien wel de mooiste waterval van Schotland. Opmerkelijk genoeg is deze spectaculaire waterval van 30 meter relatief onbekend, ondanks dat het een korte wandeling is vanaf de A894 op de NC500-route. De wandeling om deze waterval te bereiken duurt minder dan 15 minuten.

Isle of Lewis

Uig (Lewis), ook wel bekend als West Uig, is het grootste en dunstbevolkte district van het eiland Lewis. Het bevat het hoogste punt van het eiland, Mealasbhal (574 mr) en ook nog eens zes van de hoogste tien toppen.

Het diepste meer, Loch Suaineabhat, op 67 meter (220 voet), is het diepste meer voor de kust van de Britse eilanden.

Archeologische opgravingen in het begin van de 20e eeuw hebben aangetoond dat Broch of Gurness ontstond tussen 500 voor Christus en 200 voor Christus. Hoogstwaarschijnlijk waren brochs de residentie van de belangrijkste familie in de gemeenschap.
